Unit 2 Nutrition

• The cellular respiration chemical equation is roughly the opposite of the photosynthesis equation: C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
• Nitrates are used to make amino acids (CHON - containing Nitrogen for growth). If there's a deficiency in the plant, it has stunted growth.

  
• Magnesium is used to make chlorophyll. If there's a deficiency in the plant, it is yellow coloured, and there is no production of chlorophyll to absorb light, resulting in no photosynthesis and eventually death.

  
• Human Nutrition Deficiencies:

  • Kwashiorkor → Protein 🥩
  • Blindness → Vitamin A 🐟 🍅 🧀
  • Scurvy (wounds failing to heal plus bleeding gums) → Vitamin C 🍊 🥬
  • Rickets (bone deformity) → Vitamin D 🧈
  • Rickets → Calcium 🥛
  • Anaemia (not enough red blood vessels from haemoglobin enzymes for oxygen) → Iron 🥩
  • Kidney failure + dehydration → Water 💧
  • Constipation, colitis (diarrhea & blood), cardiovascular diseases ❤️ → Dietary Fibre 🌾
