Jack - I

• Jack is the head choir boy – choirs linked to Christianity and goodness – and, with his choir boys, become the hunters and the savages. 
• The fire that is started by Jack and his hunters is intended to smoke out Ralph, enabling the hunters to kill him, but actually saves his life (and theirs) by catching the attention of the passing naval officers; 
• Furthermore, Jack was the one who didn’t want to keep the signal fire going, despite its purpose being to help them get rescued, yet he lit the fire which resulted in their rescue.
