Multistore model of memory

    Cards (3)

    • Sensory register
All stimuli pass through the SR. Comprises of several sensory registers. Coding in each register is specific. Duration is very brief (less than half a second). Very high capacity. Information passes further into the memory system only if you pay attention to it.
    • Short term memory
More of a temporary store. Maintenance rehearsal occurs when we repeat material to ourselves over and over again. If we rehearse it long enough, is passes into long term memory
    • Long term memory
When we want to recall information from LTM, it has to be transferred back to STM by a process called retrieval
