Public acts of worship

• The synagogue is the main place for worship
• Importance of Synagogue Services:

  • Unite the local community and they are a reminder of the global community that Jews are a part of
  • They are used for prayer (eg thanksgiving or praise) and offer Jews a chance to ask for guidance from God
• Prayer in the Synagogue became more important after the destruction of the temple
• It fufils the requirement to worship publicly
• It gives Jews the opportunity to listen and reflect on readings from the Torah.
