3. Speed of transmission

Subdecks (1)

Cards (2)

  • How is speed of transmission increased in a myelinated neurone? (Saltatory conduction)
. The myelinated neurone contains Schwann cells (wrapped around the axon like a donut)
. Schwann cells acts as an insulating layer
. So A.Ps only happen at the nodes of Ranvier
. Electrical impulses jump from node to node = saltatory conduction
