• healthy kidneys can be found from people who have died suddenly. they have to be on the organ donor register or carry a donor card. kidneys can also be transplanted from alive people, but small risk. donor kidney can be rejected by patients immune system, patient is treated with drugs to prevent this.
• transplants are cheaper in the long run, but there is a long waiting list
