  • schema- a category of knowledge as well as the process of acquiring knowledge
  • schemas can be thought of as templates or blueprints which allow us to make sense of our experiences by categorising them into familiar patterns
  • the more schemas we have, the better equipped we are to understand new situations
  • accommodation - when we encounter something that does not fit with an existing schema, it is accommodated by modifying the schema so that it fits better with new information.
  • accommodation- when new information is stored and original schemas are modified as a result to reach equilibrium
  • equilibrium– a state of cognitive balance between experience and what is understand.
  • cognitive development- the development of the mind, including the ability to think, reason, and learn
  • Abstract logical thinking- is the ability to solve problems using imagination without having to be involved practically.
  • egocentric thinking- only being able to see the world from their own perspective.
  • Disequilibrium- a state of cognitive imbalance between experience and what is understood.
  • object permanence- knowing that an object still exists, even if it is hidden
  • Theory of conservation: (In the operational stage) the theory that somethings appearance may change but its quantity will stay the same.
