  • compression: occurs when the bone is pressed together on itself.
  • Colles' fracture: occurs of the lower end of the radius when someone tries to stop a bad fall.
  • fracture: broken bone.
  • closed fracture: aka complete fracture, where the bone is broken with no open wound in the skin.
  • open fracture: bone is broken and through the skin
  • comminuted fracture: the bone is splintered or crushed.
  • greenstick fracture: bone is bent and only partially broken.
  • oblique fracture: occurs at an angle across the bone.
  • pathological fracture: when a weakened bone breaks under normal strain.
  • spiral fracture: the bone has been twisted apart.
  • stress fracture: overuse fracture caused by a small crack in the bone that go progressively worse.
