• centre of mass is the point of balance of a body
• centre of mass constantly changes as the body is an irregular shape and is constantly moving
• what four factors affect stability?

  • height of centre of mass - lowering CoM increases stability
  • position of line of gravity - increased stability if central over base of support
  • area of base of support - the larger the area that is in contact with the ground, the more stability
  • mass of the performer - greater mass increases inertia providing more stability
