why was there a lack of effective opposition to the Nazis?

Cards (2)

    • Opposition leaders eliminated. Many were arrested or killed and others fled Germany.
    • Lack of political opposition. All political parties banned in 1933 - no legal framework for opposition.
    • Support for the Nazis. Many Germans convinced to support Hitler (propaganda). Hitler gave many what they wanted - jobs and money.
    • Lack of support. Overseas help was lacking because allies would not cause tension with Nazi Germany in the build up to war.
    • Widespread fear - concentration camps. Germans afraid of even criticising Hitler or the Nazis and being sent to camps.
    • Churches. Most church groups agreed to cooperate with the Nazis - seen through the concordat. Most clergymen and members of the church did not speak out against Nazis.
