  • Appropriate for offenders who commit aggressive crimes.
  • Aim 1 - Increase awareness of thoughts that lead to anger. (e.g hostile attribution bias)
  • Regulation of arousal to control physical signs of anger (e.g breathing exercises, counting)
  • Behavioural strategies - problem solving skills, assertiveness and strategic withdrawal.
  • Conceptualisation(stage1) - where client learns about the concept of anger and situations which provoke/ trigger them.
  • Skills acquisition(stage2) - where the client is taught skills to help manage anger such as self regulation, ways of thinking differently and communication skills .
  • Application(stage 3) - client applies skills by role playing situations which would previously make them angry.
  • short term benefits - reduced anger or aggression, safer and less hostile environment for staff and prisoners, helps with positive rehabilitation.
  • Long term benefits - effective rehabilitation, reduce re offending behaviours when released.
