  • explain why the USA has economic influence - trade
Many countries rely on the US for trading and its exports such as fuel, machinery and electricals. The US has many of the world’s biggest multinational companies such as McDonald’s and Microsoft, which have branched out to other countries. They provide jobs, improvements in technology and increased tax for the economy. For example, the US is by far the largest economy, making up roughly a quarter of the World’s economy.
  • explain why the USA has economic influence - aid
The USA provides aid in the form of resources and packages to countries which are in extreme poverty or have experienced disaster. The aid can help developing countries and its citizens to rebuild after disasters and conflicts. For example, in 2021 the White House announced it would give $500m in aid to Afghan refugees suffering under Taliban control.
  • explain why some groups are less likely to participate in politics - discrimination
For much of the history of the USA black people have been mistreated,
abused and also denied the right to vote. Though they now have that
right many feel that the people that they can vote are mostly white and so don’t know what it’s like to be black or how to make things better therefore choose not to participate as they may feel the system doesn’t work for them. For example in the 2020 elections, turnout for Black people was roughly 8% lower than White people.
  • explain why some groups are less likely to participate in politics - language barriers
This may make politics more difficult to understand as it is mostly
reported in English in the media. There are also few Hispanic politicians
as role models meaning others may be less likely to take part
themselves. For example, US citizens must register to be allowed to vote and registration is usually lower among ethnic minorities which could be due to the complex process.
