Movement - factors effecting simple diffusion

• The rate of diffusion can be increased by:

  1. increasing the surface area over which the diffusion is occurring
  2. increasing or maintaining the concentration gradient between two areas
  3. decreasing the distance over which the diffusion is occurring (short diffusion path)
  4. increasing the temperature (up to a point) as molecules have more thermal and therefore kinetic energy
