  • Powers multiplied together should be summed
    anam=a^na^m= an+ma^{n+m}
  • A power to the power of another power should be multiplied
    (an)m=\left(a^n\right)^m= anma^{nm}
  • For negative powers you apply the power normally and take the reciprocal
    an=a^{-n}= 1an\frac{1}{a^n}
  • If the power is 1 over n then you take the nth root
    a1n=a^{\frac{1}{n}}= an\sqrt[n]{a}
  • Anything to the power 0 is 1
    a0=a^0= 11
