Endocrine system

Cards (16)

  • What is endocrine system?
A system of glands that secrete hormones into the bloodstream to regulate bodily functions.
  • What are the gland in the endocrine system?
Pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, pancreas, ovaries, testes.
  • What are the organs in the endocrine system?
Pituitary gland, thyroid gland, adrenal glands, pancreas, ovaries (in females), testes (in males)
  • How do hormones target their cell?
Receptors through soluble and insoluble amino acid
  • What are the different types of hormones in the endocrine system?
Steroid hormones, peptide hormones, and amino acid-derived hormones.
  • What is HPA-axis in endocrine?
The HPA axis is a complex neuroendocrine system that regulates the body's response to stress.
  • what are the main hormones in the brain?
    Serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, adrenaline, cortisol.
  • what is the hypothalamus?
A region in the brain that regulates various bodily functions and behaviors.
  • What does the hypothalamus do?
    Your hypothalamus helps manage your:
    • Body temperature.
    • Blood pressure.
    • Hunger and thirst.
    • Sense of fullness when eating.
    • Mood.
    • Sex drive.
    • Sleep.
  • How does the hypothalamus interact with the pituitary gland?
Your pituitary gland sits just below your hypothalamus. It consists of two lobes, called the anterior pituitary and posterior pituitary. Your hypothalamus sends signals in the form of releasing hormones to tell the anterior and posterior pituitary when to release (secrete) its hormones.
  • What does the anterior pituitary release hormones?
Growth hormone, corticotropin-releasing hormones, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH).
  • What does the posterior pituitary gland do?
hypothalamus makes two hormones but stores them in the posterior pituitary. When these hormones are needed, your hypothalamus sends a signal to the posterior pituitary to release them into the bloodstream.
  • What the two hormones in the posterior gland?
Oxytocin and vasopressin also calledantidiuretic hormone (ADH)
  • why are the amino acid base and water soluble in important?
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and play a crucial role in various biological processes. Their solubility in water allows for their transport and interaction within cells and tissues.
  • hormones medicine that target endocrine system?
    Insulin, contraception, levothyroxine , steriods
  • How do hormones work through feedback loop?
    Negative feedback.
