a Communist party, led by Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg. In 1919 they led a Communist uprising and set up soviets in various German towns, but they were suppressed by Ebert with the help of the Freikorps (anti-Communist ex-soldiers who had formed paramilitary groups). Liebknecht and Luxemburg were murdered.
