  • As with the county court, claims will be heard in open court by a single judge of the High court. Judges will be assigned to the King's Bench, Chancery or Family division and will only hear cases relating to the work of said divisions. The judge will read case papers before the hearing, and can hear legal arguments and evidence during the trial.

    Appeals from lower courts such as family proceedings courts which hare part of the magistrates' courts, and complicated family cases transferred from the county court.
    Cases with some sort of foreign element such as international child abduction, forced marriage, female genital mutilation, where a divorce has happened outside of england but the parties are disputing property within england.
