Systematic Sampling
Number of people are selected from the sampling frame at regular intervals e.g take the tenth name from the sampling frame
Stratified Sampling
Divide the sampling frame into groups and take a certain sample from each
Quota Sampling
Select people who fit into certain categories
Multistage/Cluster Sampling
Certain areas are chosen and then random samples are taken in those areas e.g In a survey of school students, take a random sample of schools and then a random selection of students in those schools
Snowball sampling
Identify a person that fits the category of the characteristics and ask them to introduce them to whoever fits that category e.g useful for difficult groups (criminals)
Purposive Sampling
Sample selected according to known characteristics e.g MP, Headteacher
