• Pollution in land:

  • toxic chemicals, like pesticides and herbicides
  • dumping waste in landfill sites
• Pollution in water:

  • sewage
  • fertiliser
  • toxic chemicals washed from land
• Pollution is increasing as human population increases, since more waste is produced
• Increase in human population means more land is used for building, quarrying for materials, farming and dumping waste, leading to less space for plants and animals
