D1 - Fluid dynamics

Cards (13)

  • The equation for pressure is pressure = Force/area
  • Absolute pressure is the relative pressure + atmospheric pressure
  • Hydrostatic thrust is the force on the container.
  • The equation for average pressure is density * gravity * h/2
  • What is the equation for average pressure in a fluid?
    density * gravity * h/2
  • What is volumetric flow rate?
The volume that flows through a pipe per unit time
  • What is the equation for volumetric flow rate?
Volume / time or cross sectional area * velocity
  • What are the equations for mass flow rate?
Mass / time or density * volumetric flow rate
  • Mass or volumetric flow rate wont change if the pipe dimensions change.
  • What is the equation for the weight on an object in a fluid?
Weight = density of object * volume of object * gravity
  • What is the equation for upthrust on an object?
Upthrust = density of fluid * volume of fluid * gravity
  • What is the archimedes principle?
The volume of fluid displaced by a submerged object equals the volume of that object, therefore the weight of fluid displaced will equal the apparent loss of weight of the object.
  • What is the equation for force using the archimedes principle?
Force = density of object * volume of object * acceleration
