• 1. mRNA associates with a ribosome. the first and second codon are in the ribosome
• 2. first codon is start codon and attracts a complementary tRNA molecule which carries an amino acid
• 3. second tRNA attaches to second codon
• 4. peptide bond forms between amino acids
• 5. ribosome moves forward by 1 codon
• 6. first tRNA leaves codon and a third tRNA moves to the third codon
• 7. peptide bonds form between the second and third amino acid
• 8. ribosome continues moving along mRNA until it reaches stop codon
• 9. polypeptide chain is then released folding into correct shape
• many ribosomes work along the mRNA. This is called polysome
• polysome speeds up protein synthesis and increases protein yield
