  Directional - a testable statement that predicts a specific outcome

  One condition will do better/worse than the other

  e.g. there will be a positive relationship between stress and illness

  Nondirectional - there will be a difference between conditions but its not stated

  e.g. there will be a relationship between stress and illness

  Null - there will be no difference between conditions

  e.g. there will be no difference between stress and illness
