Heart

Cards (13)

  • The heart is divided into four chambers, two atria (right & left) and two ventricles (right & left)
  • Blood flows from the right side to the lungs where it picks up oxygen and then returns to the left side of the heart
  • Blood flows from the left side of the heart out to the rest of the body via arteries
  • Oxygenated blood enters the left atrium which pumps it through the bicuspid valve into the left ventricle
  • Blood flows from the right side to the lungs where it picks up oxygen and then returns back to the heart via pulmonary veins
  • The left ventricle contracts and forces blood out through the semilunar valves into the aorta
  • Blood flows from the left side of the heart out through arteries to all parts of the body
  • Arteries carry blood away from the heart under high pressure
  • Deoxygenated blood enters the right atrium which pumps it through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle
  • Arteries carry blood away from the heart
  • Veins carry blood towards the heart
  • Capillaries are tiny tubes that connect arterioles with venules
  • Arterioles are small branches off an artery that supply capillaries with blood
