Infared radiation

• Infared Radiation (IR) is given out by all objects
• The hotter the object, the more infrared radiation it gives out
• When an object absorbs infrared radiation, thermal energy is transferred to the object and it warms up
• Infrared radiation is used in Infrared cameras, electric heaters, and some cookers
• Infrared radiation is attenuated much less than visible light
• Infrared radiation is ideal for fibre optic communication
• All electromagnetic waves (including infrared radiation) travel at the speed of light
• The speed of light is 3*10^8
• Infrared radiation comes after microwaves in the electromagnetic spectrum
• Infrared radiation comes before visible light in the electromagnetic spectrum
