Thematic Analysis

• How to do a thematic analysis?

  1. Content (e.g. interview) that you want to analyse and type it up - transcript
  2. Look for themes - write a code next to each sentence that links to a theme and keeping identifying codes
  3. Cluster similar themes together
• How to present results?

  • List the themes and discuss them in order of importance
  • Summarise findings in more detail: sub-headings, illustrate quotes, describe examples
  • Draw conclusions
  • Triangulation: attempt to validate findings
  • Be reflective and include any possible biases
