  • Define exploitation?
Marx argued that capitalism inherently exploits workers through the extraction of surplus value. (Exploitation is the action of treating someone unfairly in order to benefit from their work.)
  • Give one way that a worker is exploited.
Surplus Value: Workers are pald a wage for their labor, but the value they produce through their work exceeds the value of their wages. This surplus value is appropriated by capitalists as profit.
  • Give one way that a worker is exploited.
Labor Theory of Value: Many's theory of value states that the value of a commodity is determined by the amount of socially necessary labor time required for its production.
Therefore, capitalists profit by paying workers less than the value they produce.
  • Give one way that a worker is exploited.
Class Conflict: The relationship between capitalists and workers is characterised by inherent conflict, as capitalists seek to maximise profit by extracting as much surplus value as possible while workers seek to improve their wages and working conditions.

Cycle of Exploitation: This process perpetuates itself in a cycle: capitalists reinvest profits to accumulate more capital, leading to further exploltatlon of workers and widening the gap between the wealthy capitalists and the working class.
