• The multi-store model of memory is a structural model proposed by Atkinson and Shiffrin

• the STS has two parts - the acoustic store and the echoic store

• the iconic store is part of the visual store that lasts for around one third of a second
• when attention is paid to something in the environment, it is then converted to STM
• If information is rehearsed, it is transferred from the STM to the LTM
• Each store has its own characteristics in terms of encoding, capacity and duration
