• What are skeletal muscles used for?

  To move

  They pull on bones

  After receiving nerve impulses
• What are skeletal muscles joined to by bones by?

  Tendons

  Capable of withstanding tension
• What joins bone to bone?

  Ligaments

  Strong & flexible
• What are synovial joints?

  Between bones that move against each other e.g. hips, shoulders etc.
• Whats in the synovial joint?

  Synovial fluid that acts as a lubricant

  To reduce friction
• What secretes synovial fluid?

  Synovial membrane
• What is a fibrous capsule?

  Encloses joints
• What is on cartilages?

  Cartilage pads (You dont need to know this but for your understanding,its to reduce friction in joints)
• In terms of movement, how do skeletal muscles move the bone at the joint?

  One contracts

  The other relaxes
• Describe to me how antagonistic muscles work using biceps and triceps analogy

  When biceps contract, they shorten

  Flexor

  When triceps relax, they lengthen

  Extensors

  So, when one contracts, the other relaxes
