Plants containing the same two alleles on each of the homologous chromosomes (tt or TT)
What is a monohybrid cross?
study of a cross between individuals which studies only a singletrait (Yellow and Green)
First generation flowers all show the dominant allele/characteristic (yellow)
Second generation of flowers shows 3:1 ratio (3yellow offspring to 1green)
What is sex linkage?
the genes that are located on the sexchromosomes
what is Sex-linked inheritance ?
when an organism has one pair of sex chromosome, with males having XY and females XX
Humans contain 22 pairs of autosomal (non sex) cells and 1 pair of sex chromosomes which determine the gender
If a female has a recessive sex link trait = 100% of her male offspring will have the trait.
Female offspring WILL inherit the allele linked to their father
What is codominance?
occurs when alleles of a gene pair in heterozygous are both fully expressed in the phenotype (neither allele is dominant or reccessive). each allele is represented by a CAPTITALLETTER
What is an example of codominance ?
Seen in cows. If a red and a white cow mate they will create a thirdphenotype which is white with redspots
what is Incomplete dominance ?
occurs when one allele for a specific trait is not completely expressed over its paired allele. The phenotypes of parents blend together fir form a new one. Each allele is expressed as a capitalletter
What is an example of incomplete dominance ?
snapdragonflowers, if a parent flower is red mates with a parents flower that is white then their children's flowers will be pink as neither parent was able to express all of their genes
