Figures of Speech

• Similie- a comparison of two unlike things using "like" or "as"
• Metaphor- a comparison of two unlike things without using using "like" or "as"
• Personification- giving human qualities to non-human things
• Hyperbole- an exaggeration for emphasis or effect
• Alliteration- repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of multiple words
• Onomatopoeia- words that imitate the sound they describe
