Main Message

• The conflict is between the bitter weather and the soldiers’ defencelessness against, wind, rain, snow and frost. Conflict is boredom and waiting for something to happen. Conflict is men’s memories of home V their current situation. Conflict with God and his part in all this.

  Long poem to show how bored and lack of action the men had to endure, horrendous weather, nostalgia, questions God in all this.
• The poem tells the story of WW1 soldiers who are in the trenches, waiting for something to happen. In the poem, nature is as dangerous as the enemy soldiers and the men think of home
