• In 1941, the USAFFE was created by Gen. Douglas McArthur.
• On December 8, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and Invaded the Philippines 10 hours later.
• Gen. McArthur declared Manila an open city, but the Japanese bombed it anyway.
• Japan invaded Lingayen Gulf on December 22, 1941.
• Japan occupied Manila on January 2, 1941.
• Luis Taruc established HukBaLaHap (Hukbo ng Bayan Laban sa Hapon)
• April 9th marked the Death March, wherein the prisoners of war were forced to walk from Bataan to San Fernando, Pampanga.
• The Death March preceded the fall of Bataan and the surrender of Major Gen. Edward P. King.
• May 6th marked the fall of Corregidor when Gen. Jonathan Wainwright surrendered to Masaharu Homma.
• The Japanese puppet republic was established with Jose P. Laurel as the president.
