  • What did Hitler do to law courts?
    He abolished trial by jury, forcing judged alone to decide if people were guilty or innocent.
  • How did Hitler ensure that judges did what he wanted?
    He set up the National Socialist League for the Maintenance of Law; all judges had to be a member and swear an oath of loyalty to Hitler.
  • What new court did Hitler set up?
    Hitler set up the People's Court which heard cases of treason against the state. Judges of this court were handpicked and sometimes Hitler himself gave verdicts.
  • Why was this justice system unfair?
    Hitler had not given those found guilty the right to appeal any given sentence and it was also completely controlled by the Nazis; Jewish people were also banned from being apart of the legal system.

    There were only 2 people sentenced to death for 2 years.

    534 people were sentenced to death for political offences.
