sign test

Cards (6)

  • the sign test - a calculation that is used to determine whether a difference is statistically significant or if it occurred by chance
  • when to use the sign test:
    • when looking for a difference rather than a relationship
    • experiment used repeated measures
    • data should be nominal (in categories)
  • s value - the smaller number becomes the 'S value'
  • n value - number of participants that had a change in score (ignore any 0 values)
  • critical value - the value that is used to determine whether the null hypothesis is rejected
  • for data to be significant, the 'S value' must be equal to or less than the critical value identified
