SENSORY AND MOTOR MECHANISM

Cards (6)

  • SENSORY IN ANIMALS
Sensory information is conveyed and perceived by the following:
    • the presence of a physical stimulus that would allow certain reactions.
    • the transduction of the stimulus into electrochemical impulses in the sensory receptors
    • the transmission of action potentials in sensory neurons; and
    • the interpretation of the stimulus perceived by the central nervous system.
  • SENSORY AND MOTOR MECHANISMS OF PLANTS
Plants react to light, chemicals, gravity, water, and even touch. The ability of plants to respond to a certain stimulus is known as tropism.
  • PHOTOTROPISM
Movement of the plant in response to light, usually in the direction toward the light
  • GEOTROPISM
Movement of the plant in response to gravitational force.
    • Negative geotropism - when the plant part moves away from Earth
    • Positive geotropism - when the plant part moves toward Earth
  • HYDROTROPISM
Movement of the plant in response to water.
  • THIGMOTROPISM
Movement of the plant in response to mechanical stimulation.
