Atheroma in SAP

• With reference to the atheroma in SAP:

  • the atheroma only ever forms a degree of arterial obstruction
  • ischaemic threshold depends on:
  • size of the atheroma
  • degree of physical activity undertaken
  • aerobic fitness of the individual
  • the atheroma does not rupture and therefore a thrombus does not form - there is no instance of myocardial fibre death
