Cells

• Cells are the smallest working unit of a living organism
• Animal cell contains cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondria, ribosomes, vacuole
• The difference between animal and plant cell, is that plant cell has chloroplasts and cell wall
• Cell membrane allows some substances to pass in and out
• Nucleus is the control centre
• Cytoplasm holds organelles
• Mitochondria is energy
• Ribosomes make protein
• Vacuole stored food and water
• Chloroplasts contain green pigment chlorophyll which photosynthesises
• Cell wall provides structure and support
• For animal cell we used methylene blue and for plant cell we used iodine
• To view cells we use light microscope
• The course focus wheel focuses the specimen roughly
• Fine focus wheel fine tunes the image
• Stage holds the specimen
• Objective lens magnifies
• Light is used in the microscope to see the specimen
