  • Resistance to social influence is when a person can resist the pressure from others to conform and obey. This is due to situational or dispositional factors.
  • Social support is when a person has various people to support there rebellion against social influence. It helps people make there own decisions
  • Social support helps resist conformity. If someone else openly agrees with you and not the majority, you are less likely to conform with the majority.
  • Social support will help resist obedience. If someone else helps openly disobeys an authority figure, it gives you the confidence to do the same
  • One Strength is that there is research support from Asch. In Asch's research, they conformed less when the confederates chose different incorrect answers conformity decreases but when conformity increases it is because the confederates said the same thing. This backs up social support.
  • One weakness is that it is a situational factor. This means that it only happens in certain scenarios and does not explain all the reasons for comformity
  • Locus of control is that it describes the extent an individual feels in control of what happens to them and the extent to which they, as an individual, can affect their life.
  • A strong external locus of control describes when someone believes what happens to them is luck or fate and that they are not in control of their life; it is all due to external forces in their environment 
  • A strong internal locus of control describes someone who believes they are in control of what happens to them
