attributions

Cards (5)

  • attribution theory is when people usually attribute(explain) others' behavior to either their internal dispositions (inside) or their external situations (environment)
  • our attributions have consequences
  • fundamental attribution error is underestimating situational influences when evaluating the behavior of someone else (another). ex: swerving into lane = jerk driver
  • actor-observer bias is attributing others' behaviors to disposition but your own (similar behaviors) to situational factors (another vs. you). ex: someone swerving into a lane is a jerk driver but you swerving into a lane is ok because you were trying to avoid a pothole
  • self-serving bias is crediting your own successes to disposition but attributing your on failures to the situation(you 2x). ex: I did well on the test because I'm smart but I didn't get 100% because the questions were worded weirdly
