  • Apollo is God of Sun and Light, as well as poetry, healing, music, plagues, knowledge, order, prophecy, beauty, agriculture and archery.
  • Apollo is often seen in art with a bow and arrow, lyre or plectrum in his hands, or as a deer, swan, mouse, python, wolf or dolphin.
  • He was one of the most powerful gods to have ever existed, when he was first born he drank Ambrosia (immortality drink) and he soon turned into a beautiful man who within four days killed The Serpent Python.
  • Apollo had the power of prophecy and would use this ability to see the future through oracles (portals where the gods could speak directly to people).
  • He also had the power to heal and bring disease. He often healed people through music or his arrows, but he could also bring plagues and illness among mortals.
  • Apollo had the ability to curse mortals which can be seen in the myth featuring Cassandra, daughter of Priam and Hecuba. He fell in love with Cassandra and granted her wish of prophecy. However, she broke his heart and Apollo cursed Cassandra so that she could still tell prophecy but No one would believe her.
  • Apollo‘s one weakness is love. He falls head over heels very quickly, but failed in his romantic conquests many times due to his often short temper.
  • Zeus loved and trusted Apollo greatly, but when Apollo killed the serpentine Python, Zeus had to punish him. Apollo was sent down to Greece to serve as a slave for nine years and repent his sins. Then, at the Vale of Tempe he bathed in waters of Peneus and Zeus to be purified. Afterward, he went to Delphi to be handed The Oracular Shrine by Gaia herself and from then on he was known as the God who purified himself of sins, encouraging other men to do so too.
  • Apollo interferes during the Trojan War. He fought alongside the Trojans during the war. His son, Troilus was killed by Achilles during this war, on the altar of Apollo’s temple, adding insult to the injury. Apollo enraged and grieving, aimed Paris’ arrow at Achilles weak tendon in his heal, famously killing him.
