Cozy apologia

• Waiting for a storm to hit, the speaker husked downs, snug and safe in her study. Though hurricane Floyd disrupts the business of daily life, it also allows time for day drea. so with time on her hands, the speaker day dreams about her partner
• Everything the speaker sees reminds her of her partner. She pictures him as a knight and shining amour, protecting her. He a vivid contrast, she thinks to the “worthless” boy she use to date.
• She is embarrassed by how the content their cosy, ordinary lives have made them. Yet she draws comfort from filling the “stolen time“ resulting from the hurricane approach with thoughts of Fred.
• The word ”apologia” means defense. A paraphrase of the poems title might be. “A defense of cosines.”
