  • What is the world wide web?
WWW is all of  the public websites or pages that users can access on their local computers and other devices through the internet.
  • what are the characteristics you must consider when using the internet?
speed, security, access levels and accessibility
  • developing and developed countries developing countries tend to have less-developed industrial base than developed countries. They tend to have less access to computers and the internet- this makes information dispersal and gathering harder than for developed countries.
Urban and rural an urban location is in a city or other built-up areas. Rural locations are in the countryside. Rural areas tend to have poorer internet access.
  • what are the disadvantages of optical media for storage?
    • They have very slow access speeds
    • Low capacity
    • Not durable because discs are fragile and break or scratch easily
  • what are the advantages of optical media for storage?
    • Discs are thin and very portable
    • Less likely to lose data
    • Have a longer shelf-life
    • Cheaper to produce
  • what are the advantages of using paper for storage?
    • Relatively inexpensive
    • Very little energy is consumed when reading from paper
    • Easy to use by people with limited computer experience
  • what are the disadvantages of using paper for storage?
    • Easily damaged when handled
    • Costs a lot to transport
    • Hard to keep secure
    • Collaboration is not easy
  • what are the advantages of using magnetic media for storage?
larger capacity and cheaper per gigabyte than solid state
relatively quick access speed but slower than solid
  • what are the disadvantages of using magnetic media for storage?
not durable and not very portable when powered on because it can be damaged.
  • what are the advantages of using solid state media for storage purposes?
    high capacity.
usually durable but cheap USB sticks can break/snap.
the small size makes it portable.
has the fastest access speeds because they contain no moving parts.
  • what are the disadvantages of using solid state media for storage purposes?
    more expensive than magnetic
    can be damaged if dropped
easy to misplace or have stolen due to small size
  • give 2 examples of solid state media
USB flash drive and memory cards
  • why are optical media devices called optical media?
they are written and read by laser
  • give 2 examples of magnetic media devices
magnetic tape and hard disk drive
  • give 3 examples of optical media devices
    blue-ray disc, CD-ROM and CD-R
  • what is the purpose of solid state media?
stores data and information in circuitry rather than magnetized disc or tape. it has no moving parts.
