Respiration is the process involved in:
Transporting Oxygen (O2) from the atmosphere to the body tissues
Transporting and the release of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) produced by the tissues of the body out into the atmosphere
Respiration involves two processes:
External respiration (pulmonary gas exchange)
Internal (tissue) respiration
The pleurae is a thin double layered serous membrane comprised of the Parietal pleura and the Visceral Pleura
Parietal pleura: lines the thoracic wall and the diaphragm
Visceral pleural: lines the surface of the lungs and fissures
