ELECTROLYSIS

    Cards (8)

    • What will you need?
Powerpack, copper chloride, electrodes, beaker, blue litmus paper, and sodium.
    • How many steps?
      6
    • What's the first steps?
Fill your beaker about 15 cm3 of copper chloride, and submerge your electrodes in your liquid.
    • What's the second step?
Using a powerpack (set at about 4V) and connect both wires to your crocodile clips.
    • What's the third step?
Turn this powerpack on and leave it to run for about 5 minutes.
    • What's the fourth step?
During these 5 minutes, at the positive electrode (anode) you should see a gas being formed.
    • What's the sixth step?
At the cathode, copper should start to have formed
    • What is electrolysis?
A process in which electrical energy is used to drive a chemical reaction.
