• "'What else can I be,' returned the uncle"

  1. Scrooge doesn't want to stop working and focuses his criticisms on Christmas on financial loss.
  2. He thinks money>Christmas
  3. He doesn't care about giving to the poor because they will always be poor.
• • In Stave 1, a young boy in poverty is singing outside of Scrooge's house and this shows how it isn't the boy's fault that he's poor - presents Scrooge as a horrible person as he can't even spare some money for the boy whop has no food.
  • Dickens is trying to remind us how the poor and rich divide themselves.
