Corrosion

• Corrosion - the chemical reaction between a metal and its environment.
• Rusting equation:

  Iron + oxygen + water -> hydrated iron (III) oxide
• Barrier methods to prevent corrosion:

  1. paint it
  2. oil / grease it
  3. electroplating
• Sacrificial method - more reactive metal gets oxidised
