Light independent reaction

Cards (3)

  • The LIR takes place in the stroma of the mitochondria
  • The Calvin cycle:
    1. CO2 reacts with RuBP in a reaction catalysed by RuBisCo
    2. This produces two molecules of glucerate 3-phosphate
    3. Reduced NADP from the LDR reduces glycerate 3-phosphate into triose phosophate, using energy provided by ATP
    4. NADP is reformed and goes back to the LDR to be reduced again
    5. Some triose phosphate molecules are converted to organic substances such as glucose
    6. Most are used to regenerate RuBP
  • Factors affecting photosynthesis:
    • light
    • temperature
    • CO2 concentration
