  • EU
    European Union-The economic association of over two dozen European countries.  It aims to offer economic benefits e.g. free movement and trade.
  • Brexit
    The withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union.
     
  • Migration is the movement of people from one place to another to live
  • Immigration-Movement of people INTO a country e.g. I immigrated to the UK from Poland
  • Refugee
    A person who is forced to flee their country due to war, persecution or a natural disaster.
  • Emigration-Movement of people OUT of a country e.g. I emigrated from Poland to the UK
  • Economic Migrant
    A person who chooses to travel from one country or area to another in order to improve their standard of living e.g. for a better job
  • Hate Crime
    A crime, typically one involving violence, that is motivated by prejudice on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, or other grounds.

  • Latitude/Longitude
    Imaginary lines on the surface of the earth to help us locate places.  Latitude is how far north or south of the equator a place is. Longitude is how far east or west of the prime meridian a place is.
  • Wind farm
    A wind farm is a group of wind turbines in the same location used to produce electric power. A large wind farm may consist of several hundred individual wind turbines.
  • The hydrological cycle
    Otherwise known as the water cycle.  It describes the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the Earth.
  • Relief
    The height and the shape of the land.
     
  • Tourism
    The operation of holidays and visits to places of interest.
     
  • Pull factor: the reason why migrants want to migrate to somewhere
  • Push factor: the reason why migrants move away
  • Evaporation: the process of turning from liquid into vapour
  • Transpiration: the release of water vapour from plants
  • Condensation: the conversion of a vapour to liquid
  • Precipitation: Any form of water from the atomsphere - rain,snow,hail.etc
  • Infiltration: the process of water entering the soil
  • Run off: water that travels over the surface of the earth
  • Source of river: where the river begins.
  • Channel: where a river flows over the land
  • Mouth: End of river where it flows into a lake, sea or ocean
  • Watershed: The imaginary line differentiates between two drainage basins.
  • Confluence: Where 2 rivers meet
  • Tributary: A smaller river that flows into a larger river
  • Flood plain: The flat land either side of the river channel that is flooded by a river during a flood.
  • River bed: Bottom of river channel
  • River bank: The land around edges of a river, usually sloping downwards.
  • Glaciers: Made from snow condensed and packed and it crushes into ice
