• Alveolar Dead Space:

  • Inspiratory gas reaching alveoli but unable to participate in gas exchange due to insufficient blood supply
  • In healthy subjects alveolar dead space is almost zero
  • In disease affected by:
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • ventilation of non vascular air spaces
