"Yellow, meagre, ragged, scowling, wolfish"
-QUOTE- The asydenton depicts a rotten view of disease and poor health, the unnatural tinge to the skin and the wolfish conditions perfectly captures the neglect of the poor, that has even effected the most innocent of humanity, children. Scrooge and the audience are taken aback, their expectations of youthful brightness in a child's face is instead connoted with malnourishment and disgust.
-CONTEXT- Dickens wanted to warn his middle/upper class literate readers of the dangers the neglect of poverty has, it humanises and portrays a truthful reality, sickening as it is to hear, its a stark wake up call to the stereotypically and commonly found avarice in upper class regime. Want and Ignorance act as a microcosm for the poor and highlight even in their names the exact causes for their dismay.
